Bjj Judo
If wrestling is complete with takedowns and groundwork, do I have to spend money on Judo and BJJ?
I think Wrestling is like “all in one” martial art.
It’s good to combine with my karate striking. (Please don’t tell me to try
Muay Thai. It’s expensive in our area.)
What’s your opinion?
Most of the wrestling programs in this country are based on that which you see in high-school and college which allows practically no submissions and no chokes. You also have Roman Greco wrestling which is nothing below the waist as far as take downs and for which the scoring is a little different also and here again there are no chokes or submissions. Judo is a watered down version of Japanese jujitsu and has some chokes and submissions to it but not the ones that are most likely to cause serious injury. Judo was developed to be used by Japanese police rather than jujitsu for this reason and at one time in the martial arts industry you could not get insurance to cover jujitsu like you could other martial arts that were being taught in most schools and studios in this country. Wrestling will expose you to some aspects and give you mat time and experience and so if you are in high-school and have an opportunity to take it then do so as it is better than nothing. Martial arts is the way to go but the amount some schools are charging for what they are teaching is pretty lame and I was just talking to someone about that last night. Its almost as if the price indicates the lack of experience and quality of a school and one that is out to just make a quick buck off of the MMA craze. Shop around and you might just find someone out there that is not out for a quick buck and wanting to sign you to a three year contract.
