Closed Sparring
Jujutsu question…..ten step sparring? ?
What is this technique called in jujutsu. It was what I learned right after rolls. Its like this ten step sparring thing where you defend your self against different attacks. The first and second steps are defense against a far range punch to the chin. Third and fourth are defense against a close range punch to the chin. Fifth and sixth are defense against a stab to the stomach…etc. I cant remember how the moves are exactly executed and I need to practice so i was going to look for a vid on youtube. Thank you kindly
“Happo no sabaki” is what you should be practicing and not losing the “principles” of Happo no sabaki which is the footwork foundation of “Jujitsu”, but of course I’m looking at what you’re talking about from the Japanese view point and not the Brazilian view point. You could also be talking about the “Tai sabaki” technique which allows you to step out side of an attacker’s striking range while throwing a stomach punch. Of course “Okuri Ashi” would survice as well if you were looking for a throw or sacrifice throw against the attacker as well. As far as this Ten Step Sparring goes this must be some english wording on “Happo No Sabaki” maybe and I think you’re thinking of “Happo no sabaki” If I were faced with multiple attackers I would utilize Kotae Gueishi ( various wrist throws ) while maintaining movement within the principles of Happo no sabaki of course this switches jujitsu to aiki-jutsu, but the happo no sabaki priniciples remain the same. So I’d say Happo no sabaki has to be what you’re thinking of.
Don’t forget Kiri Otoshi ( Cutting drop ) and Shinto Nage ( Spinning Cutting Drop ) because these both work well against a knife attack. Also keep in mind the three ( 3 ) Elements of Nage Waza which are Kuzushi = Analyzing the attacker’s balance, Sukuri = Entry and Kakae = Throw execution. These are all key and are all a part of the balance that Happo no sabaki it’s self can bring about.
Hope that helps a little….. Good Luck
P.S. here’s a site that covers the 25 prinicples of Jujitsu and it may also help you out a bit for reference purposes. http://www.westlord.com/jujitsu/eng-principles.html

Kiss of the Dragon [UMD for PSP] $12.20 Let’s face it: No one is usually checking a Jet Li movie for the verbal sparring. In Kiss of the Dragon, Chinese undercover agent Li chops his way through Paris after he’s framed in some sketchily defined drug sting operation. The fight sequences are tough and quite brutal, and the over-the-top finale is arguably worth the price of admission, wherein an implacable Li takes on the entire Paris Poli… |
