Heart Rate Monitor for Biking?
Anyone know what is the best heart rate monitor for biking? It is for my dad and it needs to be as user friendly and simple as possible, and reliable. It would be great if it was also a bike computer that could replace his current one.
FYI: I’d rather it be $150 and under as my dad won’t get much use out of additional features. He’ll just want the basics: heart rate, speed, distance, etc.
Like intrepid, I’ve been quite pleased with my Timex heart rate monitor. Before purchasing, I did some shopping to make sure I would make the right choice. I bought the Timex 5H911. It’s easy to set up, has every function I need, and has been extremely reliable. MSRP is $90, though you can find it available for less than $60 through many sources. I could have spent more $ and had nothing more to show for it. If I ever need another HRM, I’ll get the 5H911 again.
Likewise, when it came time to purchase another cycling computer, I wanted simplicity and reliability. I went with the CatEye Strada Wireless. Easy to program and functions flawlessly. The unit is smaller than many computers, but the numbers are still large enough to be easily read in all levels of light, except darkness (no backlight). Mine doesn’t have cadence, but there is a model that does. I’ve been so pleased that I’ve since purchased two more. MSRP is $60, but you can find it for $40 online.
So, for no more than $100, your dad can have two high quality cycling accessories. And while the cycling computers that include heart rate functions in the same bundle are interesting, I think having the two separate is a better way to go for multiple reasons.
