Hand protection for punching bag?

I’ve been planning on getting a medium sized punching bag to combine with my gym workout, and I have been told that the standard gym gloves wont be enough for hand protection. So I did some rummaging around the house and found a pair of old karate gloves my brother used to use. Now these gloves are basically an elastic hand strap with some foam on the upper side. So my question is are they gonna be enough protection for me because the bag itself is gonna be a financial strain for me and I hate to have to buy boxing gloves (weird country, weird prices, don’t ask). I’m not sure if my knuckles are the only thing I should be protecting, or does my wrist need it too?

I used to take kickboxing, for the boxing part of it I had purchased gloves. Your right they can be expensive I paid mine about 50 bucks. You won’t need heavy duty gloves but something with a little padding is needed so your gloves may be fine.I’d say test it out, if you get hurt obviously don’t continue using them. As for the wrists, yes you do need something. I completely blanked on what they’re called but they pretty much keep your wrist in place. They’re super long pieces of material (not too thin not too thick) and you wrap it around your hand/wrist starting from the thumb (you have to actually wrap your thumb). They’re not too expensive, I’d say AT MOST like 10 bucks. You could also probably find something around the house like an old t- shirt that you can make into two very long pieces with a width of about 5″. Good luck
