Elastic Knee Support
is this maltrackng oif the knee cap? what can i do about? URGENT?
Basically, i can walk about 100 yards without a knee support before it starts to feel wierd (like it wants to click/pop… when i wear an elastic knee support it seems to be fine – i can even run pain free. Some days it seems to be alright and others it seems to be getting worse? plus when a leg workout it helps temporarily What can i do to rectify this QUICKLY as i go into the army in 15 days? Please dont say “visit the doctor” as i dont want this on my record.

First off let me say thank you for your service to this country! When this occurs it is usually because the teardrop shaped muscle at the bottom inside of the thigh is not doing its job correctly. To stop this problem you are going to have to retrain this muscle. Here are a few simple movements that should help. Take a bath towel and fold it lengthwise in 3rds. Roll it up and place rubber bands at the ends. Please follow these instructions even though they are not going to sound correct! Place this towel roll under the knee that is not bothering you. Have the muscles of the leg push the knee into the towel roll for 10 seconds and then relax for 5 seconds. Repeat this until you have done 10. Now place the towel roll under the injured knee and do the same 10 repetitions. When you are sitting do this movement. Sit with the feet flat on the floor and the knees at 90 degrees. Again start with the knee that is not injured. Have that leg push the foot down into the floor as hard as you can for 10 seconds and then relax for 5 seconds. Repeat this cycle until you have done 10 and then do the same on the injured knee. Again do this anytime that you are sitting. Lastly, do this movement when you are standing. You are going to need either a step or a 2×4 board of about 18 inches. Place the uninjured leg’s foot on the step lengthwise. Now without pushing off with the foot on the floor straighten out the leg then slowly lower back to the floor. Do this 10 to 15 times and then rest for 1 minute. Repeat this cycle twice more on that leg and then do the 3 rounds on the injured leg. This should help to retrain the knee and stop the problem.
