Should i get gas or electric for airsoft assault rifles and pistols?

Im aware of Snipers go best with springs, but what about assault rifles and pistols? any suggestions? and if anyone can name pros and cons that would be great…

If you are going to skirmish respectively, I would forego the spring only suggestion by the other answerer.

The common mechanism used for assault rifles on fields is the electric gearbox, so most of the guns run on battery power. Gas is usually for the more mil-sim minded people who want realism over practicality. Gas rifles are much more expensive up front and you need to buy the gas to operate it. In the long run, most choose electric due to its semi and full-automatic functions in most models and the fact that charging a battery is not hard nor expensive. Both Gas and Electric are reputable operations and will not break as the other answerer suggested. Of course, we are talking midline and above airsoft rifles, so nothing under $100 that has a metal gearbox should be plagued with problems from the get-go. Proper maintenance and care is all it takes to keep an airsoft gun going.

As for pistols, the status-quo is to use a gas operated pistol. This allows the pistol to have a semi-automatic (sometimes a 3-round burst, or full automatic) function while still having the slide blow-back in a realistic fashion. Gas BlowBack Pistols (GBBs) can be picked up anywhere from $75-100 for the entry models and $125-160 for the higher end KJWs and KWAs. Gas pistols usually make anywhere from 300-360 FPS with a .20g. Oh, and gas is not necesarily more ‘powerful’ than electric as the other answered suggested. It just depends on the components that you put into the gearbox, such as the spring. For instance, my M120-powered G&G M-14 goes about 390 FPS with a .25 while my KWA pistol manages about 330 FPS with a .25g BB on Green Gas.

Gas refers to Green Gas, which is propane mixed in with some silicon for maintenance.

So if you are looking to be a field-player, most people have a electric-powered primary (assault rifle, DMR, Submachine gun, etc.) and a gas-powered secondary (M1911, M9, USP, etc.).
