Martial Arts Gear Shopping Search Issue?
I have very skinny and long forearms (it’s genetic I’ve tried to beef up but it doesn’t work), my current forearm guards are the cloth kind and not only do they slip around too much they don’t provide 360 degrees of padded coverage. I’ve spent too much time on internet search engines. My question is where can I find forearm guards with 360 degrees of padding and some kind of durable adjustment straps (i.e. velcro)?
Like I said I’m skinny and I know how to block I just need some extra padding.
My arms are not like toothpicks; I have trained for 11 years; and in those 11 years I’ve hated my ill fitting forearm guards. I want a better product and I think it’s out there, I just can’t find it.
This is my honest answer to your question. I do not know your style or how your school does things. Some school like to have all the protection in the world for their students to avoid a lawsuit. That is their priority, but it must be understood that martial arts are design to make your body strong. It may take a while but you will get there. I will honestly suggest taking a strong decision about this journey and if you have not started on it do it.
Start working on absorbing pain class per class. If you have been instructed to block correctly, you should know that while you block you are also deflecting the energy coming to you. You should only absorb a small amount (no more than 50%). A block should not be a contest to see who has bigger or better arms. If you do a little research on the net you should find out that as bone receives impact it regenerates itself twice strong as before. One more time this does not happen overnight, but it does. So take a direct approach to the problem and work on your block, evasive techniques and all other sparring strategies that combine with help you dissipate the energy coming to you. Plus if you have such a long arms, you should also have long legs. Keep any attack away from with your legs, reducing the need to block with your arms.
About the guard being too big just get some Velcro and have somebody sew it in. That should do the job.
Become a real and more complete martial artist. One day you will give the same advice to someone else.
