Gel Padding Heavy
Affordable, light weight, comfortable western saddle? Any suggestions?
Also, how do you know what size saddle to get for your horse? I haven’t bought my horse yet, but just trying to be prepared. I have a tender back and can’t lift a big heavy saddle, and also need a comfortable one. I will be looking at used saddles. I am probably getting a horse that can gait, but is not a gaited horse, in the strict sense. I was told to get a gel pad. Are synthetic saddles fine? Thanks!
For a light saddle I’d defently want to look into synthetic and they are of course cheaper then a leather one. I have a Wintec 500 but their is a new model out now called a lightweight ( http://affordable-tack.com/wintec_western_synthetic_saddle.htm). Awesome saddles! I’ve had mine for 10yrs now and still going strong and NO complaints. The only thing about them is if you want to show at a registered APHA/AQHA show you have to have a leather saddle so. But if it’s just for pleasure i think thats your best bet.
You could also look at Endurnace/trail saddles ( http://www.statelinetack.com/item/abetta-arabian-trail-saddle/SLT733140%201500%20BLK/) as they are major comfy as they are ment for long rides and very much like a western saddle with a more secure seat.
The other option is a “Treeless” saddle ( http://www.treelesssaddle.com/) these are a very new consept and i have never rode in one but i hear they are awesome and really comfy.
As for fitting, try asked at your local tack store when you buy your saddle for some tips/help but some things to look for yourself is that their are no uneven sweetmarks or swelling when your done riding.
