inversion boots…bad back?
i have a horrible lower back. i had surgery in 97 for 2 ruptured disks and had a plate and screws put in to keep my vertabrae seperated. well ive re-ruptured the 2 disks and the one above them a few years ago. i have muscle spasms that would bring down an elephant. ive been living like this for 6 or 7 years now and i cant have another surgery because i cant afford to be off of work for a year (rehab). so ive been looking at inversion tables and gravity boots to hang upside down..lol..ill try anything at this stage. i was wondering if anyone was in the same boat i am and if theyve tried any of the 2 and had any sucess. im tied of being in pain 24/7.
Inversion therapy or gravity boots, are great for back pain due to compression, but I’m not sure it would be a good idea in your case. Since you have had surgery, with plate and screws inserted, there’s no way to tell how those would do if you hung upside down. They are designed to stabilize the discs, and not to allow movement much. You might get relief from traction, under medical supervision, and quite possibly are at the point where it might be better to fuse the discs and repair the herniation. I broke my neck long ago, and I use inversion therapy with excellent results. But I haven’t had any surgical repairs done. Before you go hanging upside down, or investing in the equipment, you really ought to consult an orthopedic surgeon. It wouldn’t do to hang upside down and really injure something worse. I also have good relief floating in a nice hot tub, the water does wonders for the muscles and floating takes the weight off your back. I hope you find something that works for you, but I would advise you to talk to the doctor first.
