Gym Excercise Workout
best workout at the gym?
Hi,
I have started going to the gym again and I was looking for some advice on how long to do on each machine to help me to tone up and lose about 20lbs.
I tend to do it all in time to a dance tune beat and go for the midway resistance level so it is not too easy, I use the treadmill, cross trainer, excercise bike and rowing machine for about 20 mins each and make sure my pulse gets going then the small weights but I am not sure if this is the way to tone up and burn fat without ending up like a body builder, i naturally have footballers legs and want them to be thinner with good muscle tone and I am wanting to tone up my stomach a little.
So in a nutshell, what do I do on each machine, what resistance and how fast do I do it? I got confused as they have fat burning and cardo pulse rate averages on the equip and when I was going all out I was on the cardo level but going slower did not seem like any effort.

mel, to take the confusion out of the machines, try this advice. find a pace and resistance level that makes you work hard enough so you are breathing heavy, your pulse rate goes up to about your target range, somewhere between the fat burning and cardio ranges, and leaves you barely able to carry conversation but not so fast that you cannot keep up with the pace. this will work you hard enough to yield results without killing yourself, as for what machine to use, its personal preference, i like the treadmill and elliptical, and any machine that requires you to move your bodyweight is in my mind better than one that doesnt.. eg, i do not like recumbant bikes as you do not involve your body weight. do a total of 40-60 minutes per session, no more than that. i actually like doing a weight routine before cardio. the reason why is this. if you do your weight training first, you will burn muscle sugar (glycogen) during your weight training, then when you do cardio, your glycogen stores will be low and you will be more apt to burn more body fat during your cardio routine. dont worry about the weights bulking you up. women dont bulk from weight training. it will simply add muscle tone. weight training also leads to a higher metabolism which means more calories burned each day, even at rest..
