Does punching with hand weights really ruin joints later in life?
I want to here from someone older (like 40’s etc.) who has done this for years. Did it affect your joints?
no offense, but it made my punches faster and my reaction time better.
When I first started my training, I ignored warnings and practiced jabbing with a weight in my hand. It did something to my elbow and I had to stop training until it healed. I never practiced that ever again, and I’ve had zero problems. You can do uppercuts because it mimmics the basic curl.
For anyone considering this practice, I ask one thing: do you ever see weight lifters practice bench presses from a standing position, and move the weight horizontally? That’s what a basic “jab with weights” really is. As the weight moves away from your body, the principle of leverage begins to work against you, and the downward force strains your elbow. I wish I could talk people into stopping this practice.
