Improves Hand Grip
Which backhand grip should I use?
I have a one-handed backhand and I’ve been using an extreme eastern (a.k.a. a semi-western) grip ever since I started playing. Recently a coach suggested that I switch to a regular eastern grip. I’ve been experimenting with the regular eastern grip for about 2 weeks and all I can really do is get it over the net.
Should I stick with the more reliable extreme grip, or should I commit to the new grip in the hopes that it may improve my game in the long run?
You should definitely commit to the new grip for the long wrong. Even though the other one works good, it’s not gonna do so good in the long run. If you look at the way Federer hits his backhand he has a certain flow in his stroke that enable the eastern grip he has to work so good. If you can, go on to youtube and search “Roger Federer backhand” and look at some of the slowed down videos and see how he hit his backhand.
