How do I season a 20 gallon cast iron stew pot (Brand New)?
I am having a large party and we are doing a Chili Drop. I’ve heard that you must season the kettle prior to using…every site says to bake in oven (this is way too big!)
Also, I’ve planned on cooking over an open fire…
Mother of mercy!!!!!!! That son of a bitch must weigh a hundred pounds. The best you can do is put it on the propane? Or whatever cooker you will be using to make the chili. put the lid on and get it as hot as you can, then oil it and salt it and wipe out with paper towels when it’s cool. This will work fine because the idea of ” seasoning” the cast iron is that it is porous so heating it expands the pores, then oiling and salting, fills them so food doesn’t get in and burn and stick.
