Jiu Jitsu Judo
wrestling vs jiu jitsu vs judo which is better to start with?
ok my grappling skills are just well not good i’ll leave it at that.
i’m 16 and I want to learn how to lock up with people
so 4 I plan on doing them all eventually but I can’t decide which to do
first, is one better to start with than the other or just plan better for self defense
please explain why you think that way.

Firstly at MK3, i’m not quite sure where your information is coming from but jiu jitsu is not a rip off of judo, judo was created after jui jitsu (jui jutsu) was founded, and contains throws, i don’t even know why you would say it didn’t?
Okay, now my opinion. I would start with jiu jitsu. Jiu Jitsu is taught as a self defence unlike bjj and judo who have alot of focus on ’sport martial arts’ so its firstly the most practical one you would find, especially given it packages up things from judo aswell. Jiu Jitsu contains throws, strikes, locks, and ground fighting, teaching you to quickly dispose of a threat and concentrate on whats next as in most styles the idea of multiple attackers is always emphasised. Using yeilding techniques, strikes to vulnerable areas and balance taking and good posture yourself all add to taking down your opponent without alot of effort on your own part, where as i know judo can often contain much bigger throws that can require alot more effort.
So Jitsu will teach you how to handle yourself on your feet, possibly stopping a fight ever making it to the ground, but us Jitsuka arnt stupid, we know it happens which is why you will also get taught ground fighting techniques much like bjj.
I havn’t said anything on the wrestling side, I dont know alot about it, but I have done some shoot wrestling in MMA but even then, I prefer getting in close and performing a take down from my Jitsu background. Personally from what I have seen, I would stay clear of wrestling there probably isnt much you could get from that that you couldnt get from a decent Jitsu class.
so yea, I would take Jiu Jitsu, if you want an allround approach then go down the Traditional Jitsu route, its the best for self defence, if your really wanting to just work your grappling game then there is no contest on BJJ/Gracie Jiu Jitsu just bare in mind, if your thinking form a self defence point of view, your not always going to want to be on the ground (multiple attackers?) sometimes your just gonna want to do a quick throw/lock/strike and walk away.
