Pilates Exercise Mat
When I do certain pilates exercises I shake?
I took a pilates class a couple years ago in high school. I’ve been gaining weight recently so I’m trying to get back into regular exercise, because I really like pilates. I got myself a mat and I’ve been doing winsor pilates on youtube. However, whenever I do the double leg stretch and the double straight leg, my upper body starts to shake. I can still complete the exercise, I’m not in any pain when I do it. It just bothers me because I don’t have the control that I want/you’re supposed to gain when doing these moves. If anyone out there is a pilates instructor/has experience with this and you have advice, please post it!!

are you taking the slow, deep breaths? remember to tighten your abdominal muscles by ‘pulling’ your belly button towards your back. the likely cause is muscular fatigue. it may just be that your ab muscles are weak and they are fatigued an shaky. when you are working a muscle group and it isn’t strong enough (almost like overworking a weak muscle), it will cause a shaking/trembling movement. this usually happens when a muscle tires or when a muscle is learning a new move.
have you experienced this before, or with other muscle groups? does it happen only in these positions? when this happens, you should take a short break to stretch or modify the exercise. i have done Mari’s Winsor Pilates and she does show modified exercises, which are good if you are just beginning.
low blood sugar or a deficiency in vitamins or minerals could also be a cause. coffee, alcohol and some medications can also be causes. if you do the modified exercises (and can rule out the other possible causes), it may be time to see a doctor to rule out any underlying neuromuscular disorders.
