I have a question about Target Heart Rate?
I recently started working with a trainer and I want to know what my Target Heart Rate is. First of all, how do I find it, and second, why is it so important? Plus I am hearing that when you are training its bad to jog. She makes me walk really fast but will not allow me to run…Why is that???

Second question:
It’s important to to get your target heart rate in order to know how hard your heart is working. You wouldn’t want to exert too much pressure on that organ in too short a time especially if you’re only just beginning. Getting too tired too quickly may put unwarranted stress on your body. Pacing yourself is a very important part of exercise. You have to stay 50-80% of your maximum heart rate to burn your fat in the most efficient manner.
Your trainer probably doesn’t want you to jog at this point because you’ll be working above 80% of your maximum heart rate when you do. Either that, or you have problems with your knees, joints, muscles, etc. If you don’t, however, you’ll find out that over the weeks and months, your trainer will EVENTUALLY allow you to jog once you’ve created enough resistance and enough strength to exercise at that pace (jogging). Walking really fast can raise your maximum heart rate above 80%, but that can only be done sporadically. This builds resistance.
For example, you’re walking at 80% at 4kph in week one. On week three you’ll be walking that 4kph in maybe 75%; thus, you’ll probably have to raise your pace to 5kph into order to get your heart rate back up to 80%. Your body is a wonderful machine and you’ll see that it adopts incredibly well given the right amount of loving.
