Are these good running shoes for Shin Splints?
I keep getting pretty awful shin splints and have decided to invest in some new running shoes. I currently use Adidas Supernovas, but am looking at Adidas Response Cushion trainers.
Does anyone know if these are any good and if they are likely to help with the shin splints?

I should add that I tried to rest up for a while to help relieve the pain and it did help but as soon as I started running again the pain came back. I am now trying to train for a 10k which is 10weeks away so really don’t want to rest up too much…
I am not sure about the trainers – how do you run, and what causes the stresses on your shins? Trainers alone won’t cure the problem until you know why your shins are in pain.
Now when you run there are 3 things that can happen, your feet twist inwards, they stay neutral or they go outwards (simply put), if you are wearing the wrong shoes for the way your feet hit the ground then this can cause a problem with your shins. That’s my first point.
My second point about the trainers is how did they feel when you tried them on? Were they comfortable?
Third point is that when you were trying them on, did you speak to the shop assistant about your running style?
Now assuming that your trainers are the problem and you haven’t got the new ones yet, I would go to a specialist running shop with your old trainers (wear them if you want) and ask them if they can suggest the correct ones for your running style. Forget about the make or model of trainers, just go for the best ones for your running. If you can find a running shop that does Gait Analysis then that is best (look for ones with a treadmill in them)
For shin splints, are you stretching after each run? Look for stretches of the calf muscles and shines, and the upper leg – all these muscles interact with each other and if one is tight that can stress the others, the shin being the weakest feels the pain first.
Another thing for shin splints is to start running again slowly and for short distances – the shin is weak and needs to build back up again so where a mile run might seam like a waste of time it is necessary to start building up strength in your shins – run 1 mile and if they are OK do 1 mile the next run – OK and then go for 10 minute run, and then 12 and build up slowly over a few weeks. Then build up your speed
