Are using ankle weights for workout safe ?

I have a pair of 0.5 kg ankle weights, are they safe for working out for improving my kicking and running ? I heard they wern’t safe, cuz they mess up ur knees in the long run, so i didn’t buy heavier ones. So, is using these safe for kicking, punching (can put them on my wrists) and running ?

I don’t recommend kicking with ankle weights. I’ve got really bad knees myself so I’m not sure I’m the best guy to give advice on the subject. But I just think about having ankle weights as I kick and I cringe. Running by itself already puts some stress on your knees and recently i’ve started using those elliptical machines for my cardio. So perhaps no ankle weights for that.

If you want to improve endurance, I think having weights on your wrists would be safer. If you want to improve strength, try regular weight training with proper form.
